What are PDF Files?

Jean Hanson
Printer-Friendly Format

PDF stands for portable document format.  This file format was developed by Adobe Corporation and allows electronic documents to be transferred between different types of computers.  To read and print a PDF file you need to have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.  This is a free program available from Adobe.  You can download this program by going to Adobe's website:Adobe Reader

Not everyone has the same software programs on their computers.  Some of the forms on thejanitorialstore.com were prepared in Micosoft Publisher and other software programs that most people will not have on their computer.  Converting forms and documents into PDF files allows our members to view them without having to buy additional software.

You can download PDF files in two ways.

1)    Just click on the download link.  It should automatically download to your computer.

2)    Right click on the download link.  Then click on "Save Target As" and save the file on to your computer on a place you can easily find it.

A couple of things you should remember:  Some PDF files are large in size and will take a few moments to download.  Make sure you give the file enough time to download before doing something else on your computer.

Also, if you are using Firefox for a browser, large PDF files may cause your browser to lock up.
