Name Allison Freeman
Name of your business: Detail Cleaning
When did you open your business? March 2015
What services do you offer? Residential and Commercial Cleaning, Window Cleaning Reno/Construction Clean-Up Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning
Why did you start the business? I was introduced to cleaning by a lady that had a very full schedule. She hired me as her helper and we cleaned 7-8 houses monday thru Friday. I started my own cleaning business a few years later but had no idea what I was doing. I didn't file taxes or do anything business related I just cleaned. I was busy but it lead no where. I tried going to college and then settled down to have a family. I set a date for myself in January of 2015 to dive back in full force, and make a difference this time.
How many people are in your company? 4
What has been the biggest surprise, good or bad, since you started? I am very surprised how hard it is to find ANYONE that wants to actually work for a living.
What is the toughest part of running your business? Competing with hundreds of other "cleaning ladies" that are not licensed, or insured. And the internet has made it really tough for local businesses to thrive because of local people doing the jobs for half price and spending way more time in houses doing things that I, as a business owner can't do. Like I can't organize your silverware drawer and fold all your clothes and put them away. I mean, I can but no customer would pay for what I'd have to charge them to do those things. But women are popping up everywhere saying they "have been cleaning for years".
What is the best part of running your business? I love my customers and they love me. They have given me the confidence to move forward with my plan of introducing a new type of cleaning service where things are done the right way. Or you can look at it like bringing back the ethical hard-working service professionals you used to be able to rely on and trust.
Is there anything that you would have done differently? No
What is the most important thing you will be adding, doing, changing in the next year for your business? Hiring independent contractors and paying them $20.00 per hour.
Where do you see your business in 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years? More women in 2 years!! In 5 years, a few established teams. 10 years, hopefully some trucks...?
What advice could you give others and please don't hold back! House cleaning customers have to be handled with care, they are very delicate.
How do you use MyHouseCleaningBiz.com to help you with your business? It's my first day we will see...
