Member Profile: Omar & Diane Daniel

Your Name: Omar & Diane Daniel
Name of your business: Diane Daniel Enterprises, INC.
When did you open your business? 2005 Franchise and 2008 DDE, INC.
What services do you offer? Residential and Commercial Cleaning Services.
Why did you start the business? My husband Omar started talking about starting a janitorial service back in 1999. My mother had her own cleaning service when I was a child and my husbands Grandmother had a cleaning service also.
How many people are in your company? 6
What has been the biggest surprise, good or bad, since you started? The biggest surprise was how quickly we grew as a company and how our tag line came to be"ENJOY LIFE"! We joined the Chamber of commerce in 2005, when we first began our cleaning journey and purchased a franchise ( we got out of it after 4 years). We then launched DDE, Inc. in 2008.Our community involvement has blessed us with the Small Business of the year award in 2010. Our volunteer hours in various civic organizations has recognized me as Top10 ten young professionals and my husband Omar as Diplomat of the year, which we are humbled to be awarded.
What is the toughest part of running your business? The toughest part of running the business for me is learning to delegate. I am a worker bee and love to do it all! Doesn't work so well, when you have a team that can do those items just as well. I'm growing in this area...
What is the best part of running your business? The flexibility of our schedules. We have 5 children in elementary, middle and high school and we are able to be at their school functions.
Is there anything that you would have done differently? I wish i had been fearless , like my husband was when he had the idea to launch the company.
I dragged my feet, for many years before being ready to take the leap!
What is the most important thing you will be adding, doing, changing in the next year for your business? We will be implementing more systems, educating and empowering staff and continue to look at products that will make our services more efficient. We are setting up a focus group of 6 diverse people to examine our process from initial prospect all the way through to follow up after cleaning to see if we are truly helping people "Enjoy Life" through the whole process. We have also added Facebook daily posts, keeping the 80/20 in mind for content and sales. Also setup a Pintrest page...still working on this one.
Where do you see your business in 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years? In the next 2 years hiring a office manager, grow the residential and commercial side and hire another 2 to 3 staff, purchase another vehicle with a "Enjoy Life" wrap.
In the next 5 years hiring a second or third office staff, continue to grow the residential and commercial side and hire another 2 to 3 staff, purchase another vehicle with a "Enjoy Life" wrap.
In the next 10 years have a company we can be proud of that continues to serve with a large focus on community that we can pass on or sell.
What advice could you give others and please don't hold back! Be cautiously ,fearless:) It is amazing what you can accomplish when you step out on faith.
This is your life and your choices will determine your future and the future of generations to come. My husband and I changed our quality of life with our decision to start this company. It took a lot of long nights, hard work, some tears and maybe a few differences in opinions (I am sure on my part). We started off as a cleaning service and now are a thread in the fabric of our community.
