When did you open your business? Just starting up.
What services do you offer? Maid Services for residential homes.
Why did you start the business? I had a daycare business for 14 yrs and when my parents lost their jobs or were downsized, I lost my entire business within in a month. We moved out of a big city and I found a job as a cleaner in a hotel, with cottages and I loved it!!!
When I got laid off from there I was accepted into a program called "Self Employment Benefit Program" (SEB) a government run organization that accepts people who have been laid off and collecting EI to write up a business concept to be handed in for review and if your accepted into it they give you 10mth to build it up. So I decided on starting my own cleaning business!! I was accepted and here I am!! So excited to be doing this and having the opportunity!!
So right now I am in the process of handing out flyers and getting some clients.
I just finished a website the first one I have ever built and a face book business page!!
How many people are in your company? Just myself for now.
What has been the biggest surprise, good or bad, since you started? The fact that when I was accepted into the SEB program they figured that all I needed was a bucket and a pail, only to discover it was MUCH MORE THAN THAT!!
What is the toughest part of running your business? For me right now just getting it started making sure my website and business cards and flyers will do what they are designed to do!!
What is the best part of running your business? It's mine, and that I hope to be big enough to hire people and give them a good paying job!!
Is there anything that you would have done differently? Not that I know of just yet!
What is the most important thing you will be adding, doing, changing in the next year for your business? I hope to be able to have enough clients so that I can hire people.
Where do you see your business in 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years? In 2yrs that I will have about 50 homes and a large staff. I really haven't thought that far ahead. I do know that I want to be the largest Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Services in my area!!!
What advice could you give others and please don't hold back! Do your home work. Don't let anyone tell you what you need and don't need especially if they have never been in this type of business. Someone once told me: "The good news is your the boss" and the bad new is your the boss"

Is there a specific person or event in your life that made you decide to go into business for yourself? No, not really!! Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to work for myself and be my own boss. I love having my won business.
