Jean Hanson -

Name Nancy/Stacey Bonner
Name of your business: M & D cleaning Service
When did you open your business? 2005
What services do you offer? Residential service and some small office cleaning , as well as carpet cleaning, curtain steaming, bed making, full spring and fall cleaning and some organizing.
Why did you start the business? My daughter Stacey needed a job since our area does not have many jobs that increase your medical benefits or employee raises , so I decided to start since many of my elderly customers from my health care aide skills have become a very useful tools in helping others with household needs. they would ask if I knew anyone who needed help to change curtains or move furniture or flip mattresses, so we started with our own money and now have increased our down line by 80 % of continued steady customers and new customers as well. we have grown but have many issues with keeping our cleaning staff.
How many people are in your company? 6
What has been the biggest surprise, good or bad, since you started? Keeping good workers, and trying to help the employee's to stay working for use. We have given raises to the good ones but they still decide to leave us and move on to others jobs., we have not come up with a very suitable way to keep employee's happy and secure.
What is the toughest part of running your business? I always have to be at many of our elderly residents since they are very scared to have new people to come to there homes to clean , so my daughter Stacey and I have to be with them when we go to clean a home or office.
What is the best part of running your business? I love Being able to control my hours and schedule when I need to and give breaks when we have a very heavy day. having control of paperwork and how we work together and find time to enjoy life.
Is there anything that you would have done differently? yes, make sure we have the financial part covered before starting since we have been working with our increased profits and funds to run the business, would like to grow and expand and build up our office and warehouse where supplies are stored and.
What is the most important thing you will be adding, doing, changing in the next year for your business? Well hopefully we can expand our office by building a supply /office warehouse or move to anew one.
Where do you see your business in 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years? Expanded enough to franchise the business in our area so my many new customers can benefit form our services
What advice could you give others and please don't hold back! Always start out with all the information and banking info and help with funds to start out, and cover all bases to get your office in order with paperwork needed, list of prospects, meetings to help build information on how to start, keeping track of who you will hire, all the federal, state, local taxes to cover, insurances to setup, as well as advertising without being charged a mint.
