Items Residential Cleaners Often Overlook When Dusting

One of the jobs you're responsible for when cleaning homes is dusting. If you're not careful, it's easy to overlook items that collect dust. In fact some people never even think to dust some items, which is unfortunate because this is where they often run into problems with complaints from customers.

As the owner of a residential cleaning business, it's your job to make sure these overlooked items are dusted. And you'll do that by training your employees thoroughly and make sure your Team Leaders watch for these items that are often overlooked.

Here are some of the items often overlooked by cleaners when dusting:

  • Backs, legs and edges of chairs.
  • Table legs.
  • Telephones and home office computer equipment like printers and calculators.
  • Window sills and the molding around the windows.
  • Doors (especially 6 panel doors where dust collects).
  • Door frames.
  • Cabinet doors and handles.
  • Baseboards.
  • Pleated fabric blinds (these may need to be vacuumed).
  • Tops of drapes (cobwebs and dust collect here).
  • Towel bars in bathrooms.
  • Ceiling fan blades.
  • Hanging light fixtures and their chains.
  • Tops of book shelves.
  • Exhaust vents.
  • Mirrors and mirror frames.
  • Top of refrigerator.
  • Electrical cords and floor behind entertainment centers.
  • Headboards on beds.
  • Picture frames.
Some of these items may not need to be dusted on every visit depending on the frequency of cleaning. But paying attention to detail when dusting will go a long way towards keeping your customers happy!
