How Many Home Cleaning Clients Do I Need In Order To Add $100,000 In Sales Next Year?

As we set goals for our company each year, many cleaning business owners say something like "I want to add $100,000 in sales next year" (fill in your own number). That's great, but sometimes the idea stops with that statement. In order to achieve that goal you must know just how many additional homes you'll have to clean. If you don't know, chances are you'll never get there.

Let's do an example to see just how many additional homes you'll need to clean each day to reach your goal of $100,000 in additional sales.

First, you'll need to know the average price you charge for cleaning homes. In this example we'll use $120.

$100,000 ÷ 52 weeks/yr = $1923.08 additional sales per week.
1923.08 ÷ 5 days/wk = $384.62 additional sales per day
384.62 ÷ $120 (average sale) = 3.2 additional homes per day

How many new clients does that mean? Let's say that most of your clients homes are cleaned bi-weekly, which means they are being cleaned 26 times per year.

$100,000 ÷ $120 avg per service = 833.33 additional services per year
833.33 ÷ 26 services per year per client = 32 new clients

Now that you have an idea of approximately how many extra homes you need to clean per day and how many new clients that means to your business, you should be able to figure out if that number is reasonable for your company. If so, then you'll need to work on a marketing plan that will allow you to add that many new clients.

It is important to note that these calculations do not take into consideration your attrition rate (the number of clients you lose each month). You will need to add even more clients in order to make up for any client losses during the year, so be sure to add that into your calculations. In addition, you'll need to plan your staffing needs for taking on the additional clients.

As you plan your growth each year, take these calculations into consideration and decide on a number that is challenging, but attainable. When you set realistic goals for your company, you'll feel great satisfaction when you do reach them, and if the number was challenging you can feel proud of your accomplishment!
