How to Clean Curtains
A cleaning business owner emailed us the following question:
Other tools you will need:
Ladder, safety gear, drop cloths (plastic for hanging behind drapes and covering furniture), absorbent cloths. Air movers, clamps to be used for hanging drop cloth.
Steps for cleaning:
-
Check equipment
-
Place equipment in work area
-
Mix chemicals
-
Hang plastic drop cloth behind the drape to be cleaned. Clamp to drapery rod at each end with rubber tipped clamps.
-
Cover any furnishings that you can not move
-
Ventilate by placing air mover to encourage cross ventilation.
-
Move equipment to next drape
Begin by cleaning the back of the drape if it is lined. If unlined it may only be necessary to clean the front side since the solvent solution is flushed through the entire fabric from the front.
If it is lined, reverse hang the drapes. remove 1/2 of the drape from the glides and fold it back against itself and hold in position with clamps. After cleaning that half, repeat with the other half.
